<biogHist>
<abstract>The Army Headquarters Inventions Board was appointed by Army Order 200/1932 on 30 September 1932. The Board was to investigate matters reported upon by district Inventions Boards and submit recommendation in regard to such inventions and suggestions to the Quartermaster-General. It was located at Victoria Barracks, on St Kilda Road in Melbourne. The new Central Inventions Board replaced the Army Headquarters Inventions Board (CA 118) which had been in existence since 1932. The new Board also inherited responsibility for naval and airforce inventions work but further research is required to determine which agencies carried out these functions before September 1940.</abstract>
<p>The Board was composed of a President who was the Quartermaster-General (QMG) or Senior Officer of the QMG's Branch at Army Headquarters; and the members were the:</p>
<p>. Director of Naval Ordnance Torpedoes and Mines<br />
. General Staff Officer (Engineers and Signals)<br />
. Staff Officer for Equipment (who acted as Secretary to the Board), and the<br />
. chief Ordnance Mechanical Engineer;</p>
<p>The following individuals were consultative members of the Board (who attended as requested by the President):</p>
<p>. members of the Professional Staff of Melbourne University<br />
. representatives of the Munitions Supply Board<br />
. Chief Instructor, Artillery Schools of Instruction<br />
. Chief Instructor, Small Arms School.</p>
<p>The Board's associate members were:</p>
<p>. members of the Military Board<br />
. the Controller General of Munitions Supply and<br />
. Chief Inspector, Munitions Supply Board.</p>
