Summary

The Department of State Development (1998 - 2002) was formed in 1998 and was mostly responsible for government functions relating to tourism, science, the arts, and sport including the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (1848 - ), Tourism Tasmania (1997 - ), Mineral Resources Tasmania (1994 - ) and the Office of Antarctic Affairs (1989 - ). It appears Mineral Resources Tasmania (1994) was eventually transferred to the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (1998 - 2014) while the arts and tourism functions of the Department of State Development were transferred to the Department of Tourism, Parks, Heritage and the Arts (2002 - 2006). The Office of Antarctic Affairs was renamed Antarctic Tasmania and ended up in the Department of State Growth (2014 - ).
