South Australian Department of Fisheries [I] (1912 - 1919)

Summary

The Department of Fisheries was established in 1912. As with many early Government Departments the functions undertaken by the Department of Fisheries [I] (1912 - 1919) were already carried out by other branches of government. These functions included the monitoring and management of fish supply, artificial oyster beds and fishing techniques. In 1919 the Department of Fisheries [I] was renamed the Fisheries and Game Department (1919 - 1964).
