Summary

The Department of Lands was established in 1930 with the merger of the Irrigation and Drainage Department (1930 - 1930) and the Land and Survey Department (1917 - 1930). The Department of Lands was responsible for crown lands, surveying, photolithography, and the management of vermin amongst other things. Over time the responsibility for irrigation and drainage was transferred to the Engineering and Water Supply Department (1839 - 1995). In 1992 the Department of Lands alongside the Office of Planning and Urban Development (1992 - 1993) merged together to form the Department of Environment and Land Management (1992 - 1993).
