Summary

The Western Australian Government Railways and Tramways was formed in 1914 when the Western Australian Government took ownership of the existing tram network from the private company Perth Electric Tramways which had been running trams in Perth since 1899. The existing railways department took on responsibility for trams and was re-named the Western Australian Government Railways and Tramways. In 1922 this department was replaced by the Western Australian Government Railways, Tramways and Electricity Supply (1922 - 1930).
