Summary

The Mines Department (II) became an independent department from the Mines and Works Department in 1890. The Mines Department was responsible for Queensland's energy (gas and coal) and minerals industry for over a century. It employed and engaged with miners, geologists, seismologists and a range of earth and energy scientists.
