Summary

Bill Newton was a physician who for over 30 years was associated with the Alfred Hospital. Melbourne. He was a member of the Hospital's Board for 20 years, and as Dean of the clinical school was determined that it should one of Australia's leading schools. Newton was a recognised authority in diseases of the chest. He made significant contributions through his membership of the Victorian Government's Consultative Committee on Tuberculosis and the executive committee of Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria. He was a founding Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, serving as Vice-president 1950 - 1952.
