(Sir) Gordon Taylor served as a pilot in both World War I and World War II. During the 1920s and after 1935 he flew mostly as a private and charter pilot. He is best remembered for his courage during a 1935 flight form Australia to New Zealand with Kingsford Smith (qv), when he walked on the wing of the plane six times to supply oil to a failing engine. He was awarded the Empire Gallantry Medal for this.
