Summary
(Sir) Bernard Katz was Professor of Biophysics at University College London from 1952. Prior to this he was Assistant Director of Research and Henry Head Research Fellow in A.V. Hill's research unit at the university. Katz was particularly interested in the physico-chemical mechanism of neuromuscular transmission, for which he was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1970. He held several other positions before joining University College, including a stint in J.C. Eccles' laboratory at the Kanematsu Institute, Sydney Hospital (1939-1942) and served as a Radar Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force from 1942-45.
