Summary

André Tonnoir was an entomologist who specialised in the taxonomy of Diptera, but who also was involved in the biological control on insect pests (particularly locusts and grasshoppers) and weeds. He spent several years at the Cawthron Institute in New Zealand before moving to Australia at the invitation of his colleague Robin Tillyard, newly appointed Chief of the CSIR Division of Economic Entomology. As Curator at the Division Tonnoir was particularly effective in the management and administration of the entomological collections.
