Summary

Tom Strickland, BSc MSc MIEAust, was Chief Electrical Engineer of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board, from the inception, planning and development of electrical trams in Melbourne in 1921, until he retired in 1938. Prior to that he was the Assistant Chief Electrical engineer, New South Wales Government railways and tramways. He played a lead role in the establishment of the Commonwealth Engineering Standards Association in 1922, and was a member of the Melbourne Town Planning Commission. During the war he was a Commissioner of the State Electricty Commission of Victoria and a Member of the Board of Business Administation for the Defence Department.
