Summary
Herman Henry Schlapp, born in the USA, was appointed metallurgist in charge of smelting at BHP Co. Ltd 1886. He later worked as a consultant mining engineer (Knox, Schlapp & Co., Melbourne) from 1893 and was closely involved with the development at Mount Lyell, Tasmania.
