Jack Gordon Hides was a Patrol Officer in Papua and New Guinea 1931-1936 and led a number of expeditions into Papua during the early 1930s.

July 1925 - May 1926: Career position - Cadet Clerk in the Papuan Public Service in Papua New Guinea
May 1926 - February 1928: Career position - Cadet Patrol Officer in the magisterial branch of the Government Secretary's Department in Papua New Guinea
February 1928 - February 1934: Career position - Patrol Officer in the magisterial branch of the Government Secretary's Department in Papua New Guinea
1931 - 1932: Career position - Led patrols from Kerema into the kukukuku country, Papua New Guinea
February 1934 - 1936: Career position - Assistant Resident Magistrate, 2nd grade in Papua New Guinea
1935: Career position - Led an expedition into the area between the Strickland and Purari rivers, Papua New Guinea
1937: Career position - Private prospecting expedition up the Strickland River in Papua New Guinea
