Gilbert Vasey worked with the New South Wales Main Roads Board from 1929 to 1933 and from 1933 to 1971 was Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Reader-in-Charge, Agricultural Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

The Gilbert Vasey Prize, for 4th year Agricultural Engineering students at the University of Melbourne is named after him.
